NOVEMBER IS THE MONTH WHEN WE’RE REMINDED OF HOW MUCH WE HAVE TO BE THANKFUL FOR. CHOOSE ONE BOOK YOU’RE GRATEFUL FOR HAVING READ AND GIVE A SHOUT-OUT TO THE PERSON WHO RECOMMENDED IT!

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara was one of the best books I’ve ever read. It was emotional and heartbreaking and it made me ugly-cry throughout the whole 700+ page book. I don’t know about ‘grateful’ but it was an eye-opening book that I’m glad to have read.

DECEMBER IS A TIME WHEN FRIENDS AND FAMILIES COME TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE. NAME ONE BOOK YOU WOULD GIVE AS A GIFT.

The illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will probably now be my go-to gift, but I also really like gifting my favourite book of all time, All the Light We Cannot See, and my favourite YA novel, I’ll Give You the Sun.

JANUARY BEGINS A NEW YEAR. NAME A RESOLUTION YOU MADE THIS YEAR AND IF YOU’VE KEPT IT OR NOT.

I never make new years resolutions because I can never keep them and then I just feel bad about myself… I wouldn’t call this a ‘resolution’ but I am doing a 200 book challenge on Goodreads, and I’m currently 9 books away.

FEBRUARY IS THE MONTH FOR RELATIONSHIPS. NAME YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK RELATIONSHIP: ROMANTIC, PLATONIC, OR FAMILIAL, YOUR CHOICE!

I love reading about heartwarming relationships, whether it’s familial or platonic. I enjoy books that explore family as well as romance and I’ll Give You the Sun, My Life Next Door and Saint Anything are some of my favourites that have great romantic and familial relationships.

MARCH IS THE MONTH FOR LUCK AND NEW BEGINNINGS. NAME A BOOK OR SERIES THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO RE-EXPERIENCE AS IF YOU’D NEVER READ IT.

This wouldn’t be a tag on this blog if I didn’t mention All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr multiple times. This is my favourite book of all time and I would love to be able to read this again as if I’d never read it before.

The reading experience I had the first time I read this was amazing. I was in awe of the beautiful, metaphorical writing. Everything that happened in the book touched me in some way and the relationships in this book were just moving and heartbreaking and all the good things.

APRIL IS A SPECTACULARLY ORDINARY MONTH. NAME A BOOK THAT WAS SO OVER-HYPED THAT IT JUST COULD NOT LIVE UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS.

I’m getting ahead of myself a little bit here because A Study in Charlotte isn’t out until March 2016. But this is the first one that came to mind because I read an eARC of it earlier this week and it fell a little bit flat for me. This book has been getting a lot of buzz (and I myself featured it in my recent Top Ten Tuesday where I talked about 2016 debut novels I was excited for). I just had problems with the characters and the execution of the plot. I’m also a HUGE fan of Sherlock and this just does not compare. I’ve written a review for this that will go live on Happy Indulgence in mid-February!

MAY IS THE MONTH WHEN FLOWERS START TO BLOOM. NAME A BOOK THAT WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISE TO YOU.

Every Day was the first David Levithan book that I read and it blew my mind!

I knew that it was going to have a diverse set of characters but the diversity in this book still exceeded all of my expectations! We get to meet so many different characters in this book and they were all interesting to read about. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of the book. The writing in Every Day was also spectacular and it had me running out to buy more of David Levithan’s books before I had even finished it.

JUNE IS THE TIME TO TAKE A BREAK. NAME A BOOK OR GENRE THAT YOU LIKE TO READ WHEN YOU JUST NEED TO CHECK OUT.

Contemporary is my go-to genre, but this is most true when I’m in a reading slump or need something light to read.

I enjoy reading fluffy, contemporary romance novels when I need a break. Something like The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight or Isla and the Happily Ever After!

JULY IS THE TIME TO CELEBRATE YOUR INDEPENDENCE! NAME A BOOK THAT MADE YOU SEE FIREWORKS. (FIGURATIVELY. PLEASE DON’T LIGHT BOOKS ON FIRE).

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch was so good!

It has everything that I could want from a high fantasy series. The world is so intricate and interesting – I absolutely love the different kingdoms in this world! The protagonist is also fierce and independent. She’s just a total badass! I also really enjoyed Prince Theron in this first book. He became one of my top book crushes. The second book in this trilogy was a little bit disappointing but Book 3 is going to be EPIC!

AUGUST IS THE HOTTEST MONTH OF THE YEAR. PICK AN UP-AND-COMING AUTHOR THAT YOU THINK WILL BE THE NEXT BIG THING.

I actually haven’t read The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig yet but it’s coming out really, really, really soon (February 16!) and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! There’s time travel and pirates and the synopsis sounds absolutely amazing! I’m excited to hear that there is going to be a sequel. It looks like 2016 is the year for time-travelling pirate books and I know for a fact that this one is a hit because Aila wrote a rap for it!

SEPTEMBER IS TIME FOR STUDENTS TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL! PICK A BOOK YOU READ FOR SCHOOL THAT YOU ACTUALLY ENJOYED.

My high school actually had some really cool required readings, including The Book Thief by Markus Zusak! This was probably the first book I read for school that I actually enjoyed. It made me go WHOOAAA historical fiction is so cool!

My birthday is in September and I’m supposed to tell you the best birthday gift I’ve been given. I actually have noooo idea! I’ve had too many birthdays to remember my gifts T_T.

OCTOBER IS TIME TO CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN. PICK ONE CHARACTER YOU WOULD LOVE TO DRESS UP AS FOR HALLOWEEN.

This is completely unoriginal but we don’t celebrate Halloween in Australia so I’m allowed to have stupid, unoriginal ideas since this isn’t something that I think about HAHA.

I choose Tessa Gray from The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. I mean, look at that dress on that cover! I really love Victorian London and I’d totally love to dress up in a pretty, frilly dress (gosh, I’m such a girl). Now that I think about it, I’m probably Jessamine from TID.
