Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Check out their website for previous and upcoming topics. This week’s topic is recommendations and I’m going to be featuring ten books that I bought because of my co-bloggers over at Happy Indulgence, Jeann and Aila. Some of these are books that they pushed me to buy and others are just books that I’ve seen them review on the blog.
1. Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes
When fantasy-lover Aila reads a contemporary YA novel and loves it, I know I have to buy it. She also illustrated some promotional postcards that I absolutely loved! This book is cute and fluffy but also explores some more serious themes like mental illness. I really, really enjoyed it.
2. Uprooted by Naomi Novik
This was on both Jeann and Aila’s favourite books of 2015 lists so I finally got myself a copy a few months ago. I still haven’t found time to pick it up yet but I know it’s going to be amazing.
3. The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig
If you haven’t seen Aila’s rap review of this book, you need to go watch it now. It was absolutely amazing and how could I not run out and get this book after watching her rap about why we need to read this novel?!
4. Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Everytime I wanted to pick up a V.E. Schwab book, Jeann would encourage me to read Vicious. So I finally did and it was soooo good!
5. Summer Skin by Kirsty Eagar
I picked up this awesome Aussie YA feminist read mainly because it was one of the books featured on OzYAY, a monthly ABC radio segment where Jeann talks about Aussie YA releases with two other fab ladies. The show is on the first Sunday of each month at 7pm AEST and you can tune in online.
6. The Sky So Heavy by Claire Zorn
This was another one of Jeann’s recommendations. She absolutely loves Claire Zorn’s books and recommended this one to me after I was disappointed by Claire’s newest release, One Would Think the Deep.
7. Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Both Jeann and Aila love this book and I finally read it a few months ago after lots of encouragement from not only them but also my other close blogging friends. I have yet to pick up the sequel, Golden Son, but I’m hoping to do so before the year is over.
8. Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis
I picked up this book a few months after seeing Aila’s review on Happy Indulgence. It gave me some Lunar Chronicles vibes so I decided to give it a go. It wasn’t as good as I thought it would be but I still really enjoyed it.
9. This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills
I read First & Then by Emma Mills a few months ago and loved it. Aila received an early copy of This Adventure Ends back in June or July and said that she really enjoyed it, so I preordered a copy. I’ll be reading this one really, really soon.
10. The Only Thing Worse Than Me is You by Lily Anderson
I had never heard of this book until I saw it at a bookstore while browsing one day. Upon checking out some of the ratings and reviews on Goodreads, I saw that Aila gave it a 5 star rating! I had to buy it straight away after seeing that!
Have you read any of these books?
Most of these books I really want to read soon especially Girl Against the Universe and This Adventure Ends. Now The Girl From Everywhere is on my TBR because that rap review was such an original idea and really well written it definitely makes the book sound interesting. Don’t you just love it when your co-bloggers keep recommending great reads, thats what friends are for 🙂

Wasn’t the rap review just amazing?! I was in complete awe when I first saw it. I love that I have super talented cobloggers! The book itself was quite good too. I had some issues with it but it was still a pretty fun time travel read. I really, really loved Girl Against the Universe though. It was super adorable but also explored mental illness as well. Highly recommend that one!

The cover is AMAZING! But the naked hardcover is even more stunning. I think I’ll be picking it up really soon because I just can’t resist the prettiness of it all 😀

I read it a few months ago and really liked it. It definitely has a Hunger Games vibe but is much more brutal haha.

Oooh, I haven’t read Vicious yet, but the more I see about it the more I want to pick it up. I received an ARC for This Adventure Ends, and I plan on posting a review for it in the next week or so; I can’t wait to see what you think of it.

I’m super excited to pick up This Adventure Ends. I really liked First & Then so I’m really keen to see what this book brings. Plus the cover is so pretty! Vicious is a pretty quick read so I definitely recommend it. It’s a super interesting anti-hero story!

I cannot wait to see what you think of This Adventure Ends. I really enjoyed that book. I’m just going to say two words: Frank Sanger. He made the book for me.

Ahhh I can’t wait to meet Frank! I really liked Emma Mills’ debut novel so I’m really excited to see what this one is all about. I’ve heard super good things about it so I have high hopes!

So happy to hear that you’ve jumped on the Red Rising bandwagon. I’ve still not mustered the courage to pick up Morning Star. Hopefully I can get to it by the end of the year.
Vicious was the first Schwab book I read and it’s the first one I recommend because it encompasses all that’s wonderful about her writing.
I’ve seen Summer Skin around the blogosphere and I’m in need of some new Aussie authors to rave about so I’ll try and read this book soon. 😀

I still haven’t gotten over Red Rising so Golden Son is just sitting on my shelf collecting dust at the moment. I don’t think I’ll be able to handle picking it up for another few months!!
I’ve been recommending Vicious ever since I read it. I don’t know if it’s my favourite of hers but it’s a standalone that’s really quick to read! Plus the characters are fantastic – who doesn’t love a villain story? 😀
I wish you guys had Summer Skin! It’s such a great book. It’ll be published in the US and Canada next year, so hopefully it becomes more readily available!

Pierce Brown is determined to emotionally scar us. I can’t cope with the pain haha.
The Shades of Magic series will always be my number 1 but Vicious makes a good introductory book to her work and you can never beat a good villain story.
Hopefully the book will become available to us in the very near future cause it sounds like an epic read.

If you like The Hunger Games, I think you’ll really like Red Rising too. It’s like an adult version of THG, with much more brutality. I’m actually still getting over my feels from Red Rising and it’ll be another few months before I can even think about picking up Golden Son!

I’ve already read Red Rising but I’m still getting over the feels so I’m going to be waiting a bit before I read Golden Son XD I really want to know what happens next but my heart can’t handle it yet HAHA
