Oh man, I failed again this month. I was on a book buying ban last month, which went quite well, but it’s not really a system that’s going to work long term. I also don’t really like the idea of read 5, buy 1… because I can totally see myself cheating. I decided that I would be happy if I acquired fewer books than I read each month, because it would mean that my TBR is consistently shrinking. And I’m ashamed to report that I’ve failed this month already. I read 15 books in February (check out my wrap up here) and acquired 23. I’M SORRY!
BOOK DEPOSITORY
- The Girl From Everywhere (The Girl From Everywhere #1) – Heidi Heilig
- Stars Above – Marissa Meyer
- Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour – Morgan Matson
- Broken Hearts, Fences and Other Things to Mend (Broken Hearts & Revenge #1) – Katie Finn
- Revenge, Ice Cream and Other Things Best Served Cold (Broken Hearts & Revenge #2) – Katie Finn
- A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2) – V.E. Schwab
After reading Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson last month, I wanted to catch up on all of Morgan Matson’s releases, so I ordered Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour and two of her Katie Finn books. I’ve already read Amy & Roger and I can’t wait to dive into the Broken Hearts and Revenge books! The rest of the books were highly anticipated releases of mine and I preordered them all a few months back. I’m usually pretty good at reading preorders as soon as they come in, but I had quite a few review books to read, which stopped me from reading my preorders. I’ve already read Stars Above but hopefully I can get to The Girl From Everywhere and A Gathering of Shadows soon too.
KINOKUNIYA
- Looking for Alibrandi – Melina Marchetta
- The Blackthorn Key (Christopher Rowe #1) – Kevin Sands
- Captive Prince (Captive Prince #1) – C.S. Pacat
- Prince’s Gambit (Captive Prince #2) – C.S. Pacat
- Kings Rising (Captive Prince #3) – C.S. Pacat
One of my worst habits is walking around Kinokuniya aimlessly because I always end up leaving with something I didn’t intend to buy. And that’s exactly how I managed to buy these five books. I saw this really beautiful edition of Looking for Alibrandi and just had to have it. I happened to go to a book launch where Melina was present, and got my copy signed 😀 . I also ended up coming home with The Blackthorn Key which is Joey‘s favourite book… and I had to see what it was about. And finally, after hearing people rave about Captive Prince for the past couple of weeks, I had to pick up the trilogy. I was lucky enough to get signed copies of all three.
DYMOCKS
- YOLO Juliet – Brett Wright
- Ink and Bone (The Great Library #1) – Rachel Caine
I have a review of this book. - Hate is Such a Strong Word – Sarah Ayoub
I bought Hate is Such a Strong Word because I was super excited to be going to the book launch of Sarah Ayoub’s new release and thought I should probably read her debut novel first. I didn’t end up finishing it in time for the event but will definitely be picking it back up soon! YOLO Juliet caught my eye during that shopping trip and I just had to buy it because the cover was so funny! And I bought Ink and Bone due to Jeann and Aila’s glowing recommendations!!
RECEIVED
- When We Collided – Emery Lord
- Anna and the Swallow Man – Gavriel Savit
Check out my review! - The Sidekicks – Will Kostakis
- Beautiful Broken Things – Sara Barnard
- How Not to Disappear – Clare Furniss
Here’s my review of the book! - Bullet Catcher – Joaquin Lowe
- This is Where the World Ends – Amy Zhang
- The Yearbook Committee – Sarah Ayoub
I enjoyed this one so much. Check out my review.
And now to the books that I received from others this month. Jeann sent me When We Collided and Beautiful Broken Things to review on Happy Indulgence. I’ve already read When We Collided and I can’t wait to jump into Beautiful Broken Things too! I’ll also be reviewing The Sidekicks on Happy Indulgence next week, thanks to Penguin Teen Australia. I’m currently reading it so stay tuned for my review. I received How Not to Disappear from Simon & Schuster, and This is Where the World Ends and The Yearbook Committee from HarperCollins. I attended the launch of The Yearbook Committee last week and got to meet Sarah Ayoub and have my copy signed! I’m a gold member at Dymocks and was given the opportunity to receive a copy of Anna and the Swallow Man in exchange for writing an honest review on their website. Thank you to Dymocks and Penguin Random House for that! And lastly, I received Bullet Catcher unsolicited from Allen & Unwin. It’s a western, which isn’t really my thing but I might give it a go someday because it’s got great ratings so far.
EBOOKS
- Sweet Filthy Boy (Wild Seasons #1) – Christina Lauren
iBooks had a Valentine’s Day sale on contemporary romances and I picked up Sweet Filthy Boy for $1.99. I’ve been hearing a lot about it lately and I hadn’t read any NA for a while so I decided to just go ahead and buy it.
I’ll do better in March. I have some preorders coming in though, so no promises 😀
Wonderful haul. I hope you’ll enjoy all of these books. Happy reading!

Favourite book of 2015, probably* — Ness takes the cake. DON’T YOU KNOW ME?!
Your buying habits pain is totally self inflicted and also made worse by the fact that you buy bookmarks and bubble tea and other random shit (which is fine–your money) every day/week too.

I haven’t bought bookmarks for a while, OKAY?! And my bubble tea addiction cannot be cured. I’ve tried. That artificial crap will never leave my system. (Also doesn’t help that my brother is also addicted, leading to lots of “do you want bubble tea cos your brother does?” messages from my mum)

Hope you enjoy all of those books! What a huge haul!

Yes! You should dive straight into Stars Above because you need to read that wedding story!! It was so good and I wish I could read it for the first time again!

Wow that’s a lotta haul! Knowing you, Jenna, I think this is one of the few sets. Haha! But I love the titles here! That Yolo and Juliet seems very interesting. I wonder what the story’s about. I have Epic Detour on my bookshelf since forever and I haven’t picked it up since the time I bought it. Please let me know if it’s good 😀

Hahah YOLO Juliet is just Romeo and Juliet written in the form of text messages! It was hilarious to read the play written with emojis and slang XD . Amy and Roger wasn’t my favourite of Morgan Matson’s books but I still really liked it. It’s a super quick read and has lots of notes and playlists inside. The beginning is a little bit on the slower side but I really loved the second half of the book!

What a HUGE haul, Jenna, wow. I wish I could get as much books as you, but for now I’m going to buy like, one or two books, because money, ugh. I hope you’ll enjoy all of these 😀

I love buying books but I always feel terrible because of how many unread books I have on my shelf. I’ll never be able to get my TBR down to 0 but I’m hoping to shrink it a bit this year by buying less.

Well, I hope you can. I know how hard it is to resist temptation, haha.

Ooh that’s great to hear! I haven’t read Amy Zhang’s first book yet but I’ve heard amazing things about it, so I can’t wait to dive into This is Where the World Ends this month!

Haha I wish I could get as many book as you in a month! But, you know…money. I’m dying to get to the Captive Prince trilogy, I haven’t read from an Australian author in so long and they sound so good. Enjoy all these! (PS. No need to apologise for books 🙂

I’m actually really jealous of people who have the restraint to not buy everything they see. I don’t feel bad for spending a lot of money on books because it’s money that I would’ve wasted on something else that’s super unnecessary like… expensive T2 teacups (yeah, don’t ask). But I always feel terrible because my TBR just keeps growing and books that I’ve spent money on just never get read… I’ve read the first Captive Prince book and it was just okay. Not really getting what the hype is all about yet but hopefully it gets better in the next two books. As for OzYA, I read The Sidekicks by Will Kostakis and The Yearbook Committee by Sarah Ayoub recently and loved both. Definitely recommend!

Hmm that’s a dilemma. I guess I can’t really relate, not because I don’t want to buy books and don’t want new additions to my collection but just because I don’t have the means to be buying books all the time. But you shouldn’t feel obligated to read every book on your TBR, there’s no rule that says so. Ooh T2!! I love that store.
That’s a shame about Captive Prince, I’ve been hearing such good things. I’ll give those recommendations a look, thanks for that! 🙂

Hehe, I love that your review pile for the month closely followed the same color palette. And bump AGoS up the TBR! SO GOOD.

Just to clarify, I meant review copies. Because I know you read and review almost all your books in your hauls. 😀

Omg I noticed that when I was uploading it. It was sooo pretty 😀 I love blues and greens so much! I’ll try to read AGOS soon. I’ve just been so stressed with work recently that reading a thick book just doesn’t appeal to me. And I’m scared that I won’t remember anything that happened in ADSOM T_T

I think AGoS does a pretty good job with catching readers up overall! But even if you’ve forgotten some of the details in ADSoM you’ll still be able to follow comfortably. ^.^

Ahhh okay. I might just jump right into it then! I was going to reread the last third of the book but I think I’ll just go for it and read AGOS.

This is a truly epic haul Jenna! I love how most of the books you bought were signed, what a great score! I have that beautiful Looking for Alibrandi edition too, that’s awesome you got your copy signed! It’s a keeper for sure. I always look forward to your book hauls!

Haha I pretty much stalked Melina around Kinokuniya to get it signed. She was so lovely!
