Top Ten Tuesday: Book Bucket List 2016

book-bucket-list-2016

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week’s theme is resolutions we have for 2016. I thought I would list 10 books that I want to finally read in 2016, and we can check back at the end of the year and see if I managed it. I’ve only chosen books that were published before 2016… I don’t see much point in putting new releases on this list.

1. Eleanor & Park – Rainbow Rowell

This was the first Rainbow Rowell book I bought and now it’s the only one I have yet to read. I started it when I bought it, and read about 40 pages but ended up having to put it down because of real life. I definitely want to get to this one pretty soon!

2. The Hunger Games trilogy – Suzanne Collins

I didn’t really have any interest in the trilogy when it first came out but I ended up buying the boxset last year. I hope to finally read this trilogy in 2016 so I can find out why everybody loves it so much.

3. The Mistborn trilogy – Brandon Sanderson

I decided to splurge last month and finally bought the boxset so I have no excuses now. I’m super excited to read another heist story and I’ve only heard amazing things about it so I’m really keen to just jump right in.

4. The Shadow of the Wind – Carlos Ruiz Zafón

I don’t think I’ve met anybody who doesn’t love this book. I want to read some more translated fiction this year so I picked up The Shadow of the Wind a few weeks ago. Who can resist a book about books, right?

5. The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern

I’ve had this book for over a year and I can’t believe I still haven’t read it yet. It’s sitting impatiently at the very bottom of my TBR stack on my shelf so I’ll have to pull it out this year and finally read it.

6. Divergent – Veronica Roth

Notice how I didn’t say ‘Divergent trilogy’? I don’t really have much interest in this trilogy but I do own the first book so I want to get it over with and read it. I won’t be continuing on with the rest of the trilogy but at least I’ll be able to understand some of the references being thrown around the community after I read this first book.

7. The Unbearable Lightness of Being – Milan Kundera

I love Milan Kundera’s writing and I have had this book for way too long. I bought this about 6 years ago and I’m so ashamed that I haven’t finished it yet. I read about 70 pages the first time I picked it up but kind of forgot about it. I do remember really enjoying those first 70 pages though. I’ll definitely be reading this one from the beginning again.

8.Falling Kingdoms series – Morgan Rhodes

I wasn’t sure about putting this one on the list since I don’t own any of the books yet but I felt like I had to put it on my book bucket list because Jesse @ Books at Dawn has been telling me to read this for months and months now. I’ll try to purchase and read the books before the year is over.

9. The Complete Sherlock Holmes – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

I bought the Barnes and Noble edition of the entire Sherlock Holmes collection about a week ago and I’m so excited to start reading! It’s a massive book with really tiny text but I want to read a little bit each month and, hopefully, finish the entire book by the end of the year.

10. It’s Kind of a Funny Story – Ned Vizzini

This is another book that I’ve had for a year now. At the beginning of 2015, I was kind of obsessed with books about depression and suicide, so I picked up this one. It’s sitting at the bottom of another one of my TBR stacks so I’ll be plucking this one out and giving it a read this year!

There are obviously a lot more books that I want to get to this year but these are the ones that will make me the most happy with myself if I read them.

I own a number of the titles you mentioned in this post but it’s unlikely they’ll be read in 2016. Not really a priority compared to the others I’ve discussed before with you (in one of our many threads). However I’m kind of surprised that you haven’t read THG! I don’t know how I’ve missed this piece of info, haha. Either way, I hope you enjoy them. I’m sure you could binge that one real quick since they’re super short and fast paced.

Hehe yeah. I’m not really into dystopian novels but I think THG is one that I should probably read since it’s like THE dystopian series. Plus it’s got such great reviews that I don’t think I’ll be disappointed. Hopefully I can marathon the trilogy in the next few months. I have a feeling that if I wait, it’ll just sit unread on my shelf for another year. Another one I want to read (that I know you own) is the Leviathan trilogy! That one has been sitting there for a while too.

Ooh, very diverse list here! I’m hoping to complete Mistborn this year as well. The sizes are so intimidating though! I really hope you enjoy Divergent; it’s one of the first YA books I’ve ever read. Ooh, a few other friends and I will actually be hosting a readalong for Falling Kingdoms this month so look out for the announcement post very soon! Good luck this year :).

Mistborn is indeed intimidating! Hopefully I can marathon them and fly through them. I know I won’t be disappointed! Ooh a readalong for Fallling Kingdoms sounds great! I’ll have to try to get my hands on the book soon… though technically I’m on a book buying ban… >_>

Haha yay! I always feel like I’m the last person on earth who hasn’t read Divergent. I’m just not that interested in the series… But I want to finally give it a go this year so I’ll know what everyone is talking about when they go on and on about the factions and Four. Falling Kingdoms isn’t that high on my list since it’s an ongoing series but I’ve only heard amazing things so I definitely want to catch up. I hope you enjoy them too!

Great picks! I really need to read quite a few of these as well. Night Circus has been on my TBR shelf for quite a while, so I should really aim to read that one this year as well.

I love the Sherlock Holmes stories! I need to go back and read a few more. I think I’ve only gotten through 3.

Hopefully the reading a little bit plan will work out. I’m more of a book marathoner… I don’t really like leaving things unfinished but I also can’t see myself spending a month or two on the same book. It’s just so intimidating 😦

I will always love The Hunger Games for reigniting my love for reading. However, the series is not perfect but it’s definitely enjoyable and I hope you enjoy them. It’s funny when I read the Divergent trilogy I initially loved them but when I look back I don’t look at them with that same fondness. The Night Circus is a must read. Perfect for rainy days. The book makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a fairy-tale. 😀

Yeah I’m not really looking forward to Divergent. I don’t think readers actually like it that much… I’ll definitely read the first book but probably won’t bother with the other two since I’ve heard that the trilogy goes downhill. I’m pretty excited about The Hunger Games right now. I was never really that interested in the series but I feel like it’s a must read now. The weather has been abysmal here for the past 3 days so I wish I had known to pick up The Night Circus!! But I’m sure there will be many more rainy days and opportunities for me to read it 🙂

I’m very surprised that you haven’t read The Hunger Games and Divergent, Jenna! Interesting what your after reading thoughts would be, all the hype pressure… I haven’t readEleanor & Park – Rainbow Rowell too, and I’m not sure I’ll read it in 2016. Good luck with you reading goals!

Yeah… I’m not a big fan of dystopian trilogies and when The Hunger Games and Divergent came out I just wasn’t interested. I’m probably still not that interested but I feel like I should probably read them so I know what everybody else is talking about 😀

I need to read The Night Circus too. I’ve been wanting to forever and then never got around to it. I really enjoyed Eleanor & Park, The Hunger Games, and Divergent. I’ve been seeing Falling Kingdoms everywhere! Great list! 🙂

YES! I saw it at the cinema at a special screening since the episode was only aired on a paid channel. But I’m super weak when it comes to ghosts and paranormal stuff so I was TERRIFIED. And I couldn’t sleep properly for 2 nights. I had to listen to Disney songs while sleeping haha. I’d like to see it again for clarity but…it’s too soon haha. Did you like it?

Seeing it at the cinema sounds awesome!

Omg I know exactly what you mean though. It was so scary! I was really freaked out after. We had family staying with us, so I had to sleep downstairs by myself with the wind whistling down the chimney and the whole night I was like SHE’S COMING FOR ME.

I want to watch it again too. It did lose me a bit during the last fifteen minutes, but honestly I have come to expect that with pretty much everything Steven Moffat writes.

Lmao I love how you’re like “Divergent but not the whole trilogy ew.”
Also I can’t believe you haven’t read THG! The books are quite short, and I hope you enjoy them. I myself thought it was pretty good in middle school but after reading ALL THESE YA BOOKS AFTERWARDS it gives off a sorta “mehh” aura.
Aww and the Night Circus was one I really enjoyed! Kinda confusing at times for me, but nonetheless enjoyable.
I NEED TO READ THE MISTBORN TRILOGY SO BAD. Like, if there’s a fantasy series out there that I need to prioritize, it’s this one.
