Book Haul: December 2015

December15haul

I have acquired so many new books in December. I don’t even want to count because the number will be scarily high. I’ve been keeping track with a list on my phone and it was 30 at last count so I don’t even want to know how many there are total. But I have already read 12 of the books that I got in December, which I’m super happy about! Check out my December wrap up to see what I read. Having said that, I will definitely be on a ban during January! I’ve already pre-ordered all the January releases I want to read (you’ll see them in my January haul), so I think I’m all set for the next few weeks. Let me know if you’re also on a book-buying ban and we can be each other’s emotional support.

I will include links to Book Depository and Amazon for books that I bought on those sites in case you’re interested in buying them too (not trying to encourage you or anything). The other books will link to Goodreads. Let’s begin!

BOOK DEPOSITORY

I forgot to include Red Rising in the photo. It was actually the first book I received in the mail in December but the copy was damaged so I had to wait for Book Depository to send me a new copy… so I kind of forgot about it. I have a huge Percy Jackson obsession right now, which is why I have so many Rick Riordan books in this haul 🙂 And yes, I am aware that I am missing the last book in The Heroes of Olympus series but the US cover of The Blood of Olympus is not available in paperback yet so I’ll probably borrow it from the library and purchase it when the paperback becomes available.

DYMOCKS

Dymocks is the biggest bookstore chain in Australia. I bought the first five of these books during a bonus points offer period (spend a certain amount of money and get a certain amount of bonus credit points). The Sherlock Holmes collection is something that I’ve always wanted to buy so I ended up buying it as a Christmas present to myself since I had $20 in credit points to use.

I’ve actually already read half of these books. The Lake House was an ARC that I read back in November but I loved it so much I wanted a finished copy. And I think I’ll be reading a little bit of Sherlock every month and hopefully finish the whole book by the end of 2016!

KINOKUNIYA

Kinokuniya is another bookstore that I go to really often. I bought the bottom three books in the stack during a 20% off sale (which to Australians, is actually a pretty good discount). I haven’t read any of these yet but plan to in January and February.

AMAZON

amazon-december15

I very rarely buy things from Amazon because international shipping always costs a lot and I always forget about exchange rates. The total price is just always a lot more than I’m prepared to pay. But these beautiful hardcover Percy Jackson guides to the Greek Gods and Greek Heroes were actually really, really cheap on Amazon! They were $40-48 AUD each on Book Depository but only $15 USD on Amazon. Plus Alicia @ The Cyborg Knight told me about a 25% off one book discount code, so I only ended up paying $59 AUD (including shipping) for both of these books. That’s a bargain in my opinion 😀

RECEIVED

received-december15

These were all books that I received from publishers and friends! Reality Boy was the gift I got from my Aussie YA Bloggers/Readers Secret Santa. I didn’t manage to guess who my Secret Santa was so I can’t thank her personally 😦 I received These Broken Stars from Aila @ One Way or an Author for Christmas! She’s the sweetest and I need to step up my game because I only sent her Tim Tams and Boost chocolate bars. I’m part of the A Tangle of Gold blog tour that kicks off on February 23rd on Happy Indulgence, so Pan Macmillan Australia sent me an ARC to read and review. I’ll also be interviewing the author so keep your eyes peeled for that! I received What I Saw for review from Harlequin Teen Australia. The rest of the books were sent to me by Jeann to review on Happy Indulgence. And she also threw in her ARC of Magnus Chase because she knew I was getting into Rick Riordan’s books. Thanks Jeann!! ❤

E-BOOKS/E-ARCS

ebooks-december15

Yuki Chan in Brontë Country is an ARC that I requested from Faber and Faber on NetGalley. I cannot wait to read this! Snowflake Wishes was a holiday novella that I bought on Christmas Day because it seemed like the right thing to do?

Feel free to tell me off in the comments so I can feel sufficiently bad. Hopefully my January book haul will be a shorter post! Haha XD

Hehe yes, I enjoy separating them out so that there doesn’t look like there are as many. Not fooling anyone though XD Omg those PJ books are so beautiful! I really recommend those US hardcovers if you plan to get them. It’s like a reading and work out experience all in one because they’re so heavy!

Omg more like I fail in comparison to everybody else 😥 I’m going to try to keep my haul to under 10 books next month. I’m expecting 5 preorders and maybe a couple of belated Christmas gifts but I will make sure I stick to my buying ban in January!

I’m going to move house really soon so I’m hoping to do a shelfie after everything is moved and organised!

JENNA TEACH ME YOUR WAYS. This is probably the best haul ever. Imma buy some books now too.
That sherlock holmes book was a score. I’m heading to Dymocks again for more scores

OMG I totally understand what you mean about Greek Heroes being too heavy. I read Greek Gods and that book killed my arms. I had to read it either sitting down or laying on my front even though supine is my usual position haha. Dreading reading Greek Heroes because that one is like double the size of Greek Gods! And I love the white Mistborn covers too. I’m super glad that that’s the edition I bought.

OMG! Such an amazing book haul! 🙂 I want to read so many books in your haul, lol. I am so glad you’re loving the Percy Jackson books. Also, getting good deals on books is always nice! It’s also so hard to pass them up, haha. I got a lot more books this month than I thought as well.

Oh. My God. THAT HAULD IS ENORMOUS. And by enormous, I mean A LOT. *jealous of all the pretty bookishness* The series are absolutely gorgeous. LOOK AT THEM TOGETHER. Can I cry?? Oooh, I spy Vicious on there, I need to get to it as well, since pretty much the entire blogosphere is going on about VE Schwab’s books. And lovely haul, Jenna ❤ And your blog theme is really pretty, by the way. I love itt :')

I know! I’m just like gazing at all the photos and admiring the series HAHA. But I really need to cut down on buying. It’s getting out of hand! I’m super excited about reading Vicious. I read A Darker Shade of Magic early in 2015 and really loved it so I’m keen to try something else by VE Schwab 😀 Thank you so much for all the compliments. They make me so warm and fuzzy on the inside and I love long comments ❤

Hehe… so according to Goodreads I’ve been reading Wolf by Wolf since November. I wanted to read it before I met Ryan at Yallfest but that didn’t happen (I read like a chapter). However, I picked it up yesterday and it’s so fast paced! And very good!! I’m hoping to finish it today actually. Anyway, wonderful haul, Jenna! Pictures on point, as always. 👌🏼

So many awesome looking books!!! Wolf by Wolf looks really interesting.

I’m not on a book buying ban, however I am setting a book budget for myself so I really need to be careful with what I purchase in order to not go over.

I should do that too. I’m pretty good at book buying bans but I usually just end up going waaaaayy overboard the next month and buying enough to make up for not purchasing anything the previous month! Which is kinda problematic. I tried doing a ‘read 5, buy 1’ kind of rule but that’s problematic when there are sales! A budget sounds like a wonderful idea!

I’ve heard really good things about Wolf by Wolf and I’ve just heard that it’s really fast-paced too.

LOL that would be a problem for me as well. I’d probably be able to last the month, but then would go hog wild once the ban was officially lifted. I’m hoping the budget helps me stay steady. Good luck if you decide to try out the budget too.

Okay, you seem to be swimming in books haha. This is one impressive haul and there are so many amazing books here. The Mistborn trilogy is amazing, as is Red Rising and all things Percy Jackson. Of course I am so excited to see These Broken Stars in the mix; all I can say is be prepared to fall in love with Tarver Merendsen. 😉

I am swimming in books and drowning in the guilt. Feel free to send me off to Book-Shopaholics Anonymous any time. I keep saying that I’m going to read every book really soon, but I mean it when I say I hope to read These Broken Stars in the next month or two! I’ll probably end up reading it after I get my hands on Stars Above. I’ll be going through a major Lunar Chronicles withdrawal and Starbound will be perfect for that!

That edition of Sherlock Holmes is gorgeous!!! And you are so lucky to be able to read Sword of Summer, I have been dying to buy it ever since it came out but haven’t done it yet 😅

It definitely is gorgeous! It’s leather bound and has gold painted pages! I’m so in love with the whole book (but the text is kinda tiny and intimidating). Hopefully I can finish the whole thing by the end of the year. I have no doubt that The Sword of Summer will be amazing! I hope you can get your hands on it soon 🙂

My goodness Jenna, when you said you acquired a lot of books, you really DID mean a lot! I am thoroughly impressed! I also got Wolf by Wolf in December, and I am so happy to see you bought the Heroes of Olympus series!

Oh my gosh. Look at all these pretty books. T_T I miss buying this many books in a month, but my bank account has totally given up on me. I hope you enjoy the Mistborn series. I’m currently reading the first book, and it’s good so far. 😀 And also, what? I didn’t know that Patrick Ness book existed lolol.

    • Jenna @ Reading with Jenna says:

I think it might be one of Patrick Ness’s first books? It’s adult. Haha I have finally acquired all of his YA books so now I’m moving on to his adult ones. I’m pretty sure I just made your bank account give up on you some more XD I cannot wait to read Mistborn! Hopefully I can pick it up in the next few months.
