Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday post. This is a weekly feature hosted by the group over at The Broke and the Bookish and this week I am featuring 10 of my most anticipated releases for the first half of 2016. I did a list of my most anticipated 2016 debut novels a couple weeks ago so I didn’t include any of them in this list. Click on the link to see what I included in that list!
I could have also included Truthwitch by Susan Dennard and Passenger by Alexandra Bracken on this list (those are out on January 5) but I’ve already pre-ordered those and the release date is so soon that I thought I’d look a little bit further into the future.
So here are ten of my most anticipated releases between February and June of 2016. Their Goodreads pages are linked.
1. Stars Above – Marissa Meyer
This is a collection of short stories featuring the world and the characters from The Lunar Chronicles. I believe this contains 9 short stories, 4 that have been previously released as ebooks and 5 never-before-seen stories. The Lunar Chronicles is my favourite series so I cannot wait to read more. Plus we’ve been promised the wedding of the century?
2. A Gathering of Shadows – V.E. Schwab
I really, really loved A Darker Shade of Magic so I’m highly anticipating this sequel! I read a little bit of an excerpt and I can tell that it’s going to be amazing!
3. Lady Midnight – Cassandra Clare
Ever since I finished bingeing The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments, I’ve been looking forward to Cassie’s next release. I really love the Shadowhunter Chronicles and Cassie’s writing so Lady Midnight cannot come soon enough! I’m more excited for her next trilogy, The Last Hours (Book 1 out in 2017), than I am for Lady Midnight but I’ll take anything at this point.
4. This is Where the World Ends – Amy Zhang
Contemporary is my favourite genre and I particularly enjoy ones that will give me all the feels and make me ugly-cry until I cannot function the next day. And this one promises all of those things.
5. The Raven King – Maggie Stiefvater
I marathoned the first three books of The Raven Cycle just last week and I cannot wait for The Raven King to be released! Not only is the cover absolutely gorgeous, but I have a feeling that The Raven King will be the best one of the series yet! It’s going to be so epic and I want to know if Gansey will actually die! (That is not a spoiler).
6. A Court of Mist and Fury – Sarah J. Maas
I enjoyed A Court of Thorns and Roses so much when I read it back in July so I’m really looking forward to the sequel. It’s going to be partly a Hades and Persephone retelling, which has me super intrigued! I just really want to know what’s going to go down in the Night Court! (I am Team Tamlin btw)
7. The Rose and the Dagger – Renee Ahdieh
This is another sequel that I’m highly anticipating. The first book in this duology, The Wrath and the Dawn, was so great and we got left at such a heartstopping spot that I need to know what happens!
8. The Unexpected Everything – Morgan Matson
This is one of my most highly anticipated contemporaries. I’ve still only read Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson but I enjoyed the coming-of-age story and the character development in that book so much that I need to read more of her writing.
9. You Know Me Well – David Levithan & Nina LaCour
I actually don’t know too much about this book but everything I’ve read by David Levithan has been amazing (review of Every Day) and he’s one of my favourite contemporary authors. This book promises to be an wonderfully diverse LGBTQ+ book so I need to have this in my possession!
10. Summer Days & Summer Nights – Stephanie Perkins
I thoroughly enjoyed Stephanie Perkins’ first short story collection, My True Love Gave To Me, when I read it last year so I’m super excited to pick up her next collection. This collection is written by a whole new group of contemporary and fantasy authors and I cannot wait to see what summery stories are in store for us.
Please share your most anticipated releases for the first half of 2016! I love adding new books to my watchlist and pre-ordering them so let me know!
LaCour and Levithan partnering on a book—it will be good. I am looking forward to it.

I’m really looking forward to it too! I just started reading Everything Leads to You, which is my first Nina LaCour book, and it’s really good so far. I can’t wait to see what they can produce together!

I simply cannot wait for the new book by David Levithan and Nina LaCour! I love it when Levithan collaborates for his books and those two together – seems like a perfect match!

I’ve only read one of David Levithan collaboration (Dash and Lily) and I thought it was good but not great. I much prefer his solo work. But I’m reading Nina LaCour’s Everything Leads to You right now and really enjoying it, so I can’t wait to see what kind of LGBTQ+ novel they come up with together! Super excited for it!

I’ve read Dash & Lily, Nick & Norah and Naomi & Ely (the last one being my least favourite), but I generally enjoyed the universe he set it in, always hinting at the other stories.
I am glad you are enjoying Everything Leads to You. It was one of those books that was almost too perfect for me hahaha

Yeah I finished Everything Leads to You and I fee the same way. It was a nice read but nothing that blew me away. And I didn’t really like Ava that much….

Exactly! That was sort of my problem too. I couldn’t like list a couple of things I didn’t like, but in the end it just wasn’t all that special either.

Yeah exactly! There was nothing wrong with it. It just wasn’t kind of average…but good enough to not deserve an average rating? It was a weird one. I still think her collaboration with David Levithan will be a fantastic one though!

Yeah! I think so too.

I can’t wait for The Raven King! Although I definitely need to read Blue Lily, Lily Blue ASAP before it comes out 🙂

Blue Lily, Lily Blue was my favourite of the series so far! I hope you can get to it soon. The end is slightly cliffhangery though so I’d suggest reading it closer to the release of The Raven King so that the wait isn’t unbearable haha XD

I am SO excited for the summer collection. Sadly, it’ll be winter where I live but I’ll probably read them anyway!

This is where the world ends sounds SO beautiful, I can’t wait to read it, either!! 😀 I want to read more of David Levithan’s books, and after reading the synopsis of You Know Me Well… I will add it to my TBR, as well :p Great choices Jenna!

I can’t wait to have You Know Me Well in my hands! I just started reading my first Nina LaCour book and it’s so good already! They’re going to create something really special together!

Aww, I’m so glad to hear that! I need to add her books to my TBR. If you recommend it, I need to read it! 😀

I finished Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour! It was good but nothing that special in my opinion… But I’m still excited for this collaboration!

Gansey is not going to die because he is in my protective bubble where no harm can come to him. I don’t think I’ll be able to cope if his death is permanent. Stars Above is definitely in my most anticipated list. I will jump at any chance I get to spend more time with my Rampion crew and I hope the Winter epilogue will see Cinder become Kai’s empress. 😉

I hope all four couples get married at the same time. That’s how I interpret “wedding of the century” HAHA. But it’ll never happen because Kai’s the emperor and they’ll probably force him to have his own wedding. I don’t think I’ll survive if Gansey dies. Like… he just can’t!

haha I can imagine that type of wedding being all sorts of chaotic. Thorne and Cinder would be bickering, Wolf would probably be looking for some tomatoes, Kai would be trying to get everything in order. 😛
Gansey won’t die he’s in my protective bubble and no one would dare try to penetrate it haha.

The Unexpected Everything is AWESOME. Morgan Matson is such a good writer!

I cannot wait to read it! The cover looks just as fun as Since You’ve Been Gone and I’m sure the content will be just as great!

I had no idea there was a summer collection of short stories, also edited by Stephanie Perkins! I really want to get my hands on that one. And of course Lady Midnight, hehe. 😀

Yes! Now you can wait impatiently with me for the summer collection! i’ve been waiting ever since it was announced. I heard that Stephanie’s story in the collection will feature the same couple as the one in her winter story. Must reread it now!

Yay! I was hoping some of these would have sequels. At least we know there’ll be at least one. 😀

I think that’ll be the only sequel though, since it’s a completely new group of authors. Excited to see what they come up with though!

Oh wow, I didn’t even notice that… I’m just happy there will be stories by Leigh Bardugo and Cassandra Clare. 😀

I am anticipating absolutely all the same books especially the one by Amy Zhang. Her debut blew me away in 2014 and I am so excited to what she has up her sleeve next

I haven’t actually read Amy Zhang’s debut novel yet but I’ve heard so many great things about it! I must try to get my hands on that one before her new book is released. I have a feeling she’s going to be one of my new favourite authors.

I have the exact same though haha

Sorry I haven’t been around lately. It’s been a very busy month for me, no time to read, blog and chat. I see several books that I’m dying to read on your list, and I’ll definitely check out your other picks.

Ooo! I didn’t know Maas was writing another book in the same world as Court of Thorn and Roses! I love Hades and Persephone re-tellings. Guess I need to read Court of Thorn and Roses before May so I’ll be prepared for this one. 😀

Yep! ACOTAR is a trilogy and I think all of the books are inspired by fairytales. ACOTAR is really good so I hope you get to it before the sequel comes out 🙂

I wonder if they’d ever make the UK editions of ADSOM into hardcover. I -think- I much prefer those ones..? Maybe not. I don’t know. But US/UK editions are equally nice. Tomatoes.
Cheers,

LOL I don’t know about UK… but in Aus they never bring out hardcover versions. The US covers are much better IMO.

I really have to read ADSOM to understand what the hype was about. I’m hoping it’s justified!
Who doesn’t look forward to Lady Midnight?! (though I’m hoping The Last Hours will come first) I hope CC won’t let us down here. *fingers crossed*

Yeah I would much prefer to have The Last Hours than The Dark Artifices. Who wants to read about Emma when we can have three more books that feature Will, Jem and Tessa? Hehe, I don’t think ADSOM will disappoint you! It’s a really great world with some pretty interesting characters. The only thing that I’m not on board is the romance that’s starting the develop…
