Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday post! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by the group at The Broke and the Bookish. This week, I am featuring ten 2016 debut novels that I’m really looking forward to. I’ve tried to give you brief synopses for each novel but I have no idea what most of these are about… so I’ve linked their Goodreads pages. I’ve also included expected publication dates but these are subject to change. Also, these are the US release dates, and not Australian release dates.
1. The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig (February 16)
Time-travelling pirates. Need I say more? Aila @ One Way or an Author did a genius rap review on this book that made me want to run out and buy this book straight away… except it’s not out yet so I had to settle for pre-ordering.
2. The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry (January 26)
Reading the synopsis, I still have no idea what this is about. There’s romance and magical realism, I believe? There’s a lot of hype about this book at the moment, which makes me want to read it even more! I’ve already pre-ordered this one.
3. The Distance from A to Z by Natalie Blitt (January 12)
I saw this on the Epic Reads website a while ago and thought it sounded like a really fun, fluffy contemporary romance! It’s been compared to Stephanie Perkins’ books, which I adore so I’m really looking forward to this one. It’s about a girl who wants to become fluent in French and there’s a cute French partner involved.
4. The Year We Fell Apart by Emily Martin (January 26)
This is a coming of age story about first love and friendship. There are also some darker topics, such as cancer, explored in this book. The cover for this book is AMAZING and I’ve pre-ordered this one too.
5. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro (March 1)
This is the first book in a new trilogy, and as you can probably tell from the name of this novel, it’s a Sherlock-inspired story. This book follows the great-great grandson of Watson and the great-great granddaughter of Sherlock, as they try to solve a murder that they’ve been suspected of committing. Sherlock is my favourite TV show and I love pretty much everything Sherlock Holmes-related so this is a must-read for me. I have an eARC of this and I can’t wait to get to it!
6. The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye (May 17)
This is a novel that I found out about at the HarperCollin’s BTCYA event that I went to 2 weeks ago. This novel involves a contest for magicians to become the Tsar’s Imperial Enchanter. It sounds like Throne of Glass meets Russia!
7. Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin (February 2)
This book is about Riley who is gender-fluid. Sometimes Riley identifies as male and sometimes as female. This is a coming out and self-identity story that sounds like it’s going to be funny, hectic and heartwarming. I also have an eARC of this one so stay tuned for a review that will appear on Happy Indulgence.
8. The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith (March 22)
This debut novel is about Eden who is raped by her brother’s best friend at the beginning of high school. The book follows her throughout her 4 years at high school and explores the impact of such a traumatic event.
9. Dreamology by Lucy Keating (April 12)
Dreamology is about Alice who dreams about and falls in love with a boy named Max. One day, when she turns up to class, Max is sitting right there… I am soooo excited about this one! It sounds right up my alley. I have an eARC of this one and I cannot wait to read it!!!
10. The Smell of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock (February 23)
This novel is set in Alaska in the 1970s and follows four different characters whose lives become entangled. I don’t really know much about it but it sounds like something I’d really enjoy.
Let me know your most anticipated 2016 debuts and I’ll make sure to check them out and pre-order them!!!
I honestly don’t pay much attention to upcoming debut books or authors. I went off the board this week and hope I have provided a service at the same time for hoiday shipping tips for book lovers. My Top Ten Tuesday list

I like to keep track of upcoming releases a couple of months before publication so that I can pre-order or try to request any that sound interesting to me. Looking at upcoming releases also gets me excited to read and keeps me out of reading slumps. It’s weird how I work XD

Can’t wait for 2016 to come so these books start appearing on stores. I feel quite satisfied about the number of YA fantasy novels coming out, and a lot of them have original themes too. 😀

There are so many great YA fantasy releases next year! So many awesome sequels but also a lot of really awesome-sounding new series or debuts!! I can’t wait to get my hands on them!

I need to own The Girl From Everywhere as soon as possible!! And The Way We Used To Be is going to be so emotional I can just feel it! I’m probs going to drown in my own tears while reading it!! The Distance From A to Z sounds like such a cute romance, sounds like it may be a tad like Anna and The French Kiss which is super exciting!

The books that make you drown in your own tears are the best though! I have so many contemporaries on my wishlist that I know are going to DESTROY me. I think The Distance from A to Z is going to be an awesome fluffy read! It does remind me a lot of Anna and the French Kiss. I quite like the cover too and I wish it was coming out as a print copy… but I think it’s only available as an ebook.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh I didn’t know it was only coming out as a ebook! It’s generating a lot of buzz for only being an ebook. Good for it!
I love when a book just causes you to have a good cry and your just sitting there like, ‘why is paper with words on it causing me to have all the feels!’

Such a great list! I keep hearing about The Girl From Everywhere, maybe I should add it to my TBR, too… 🙂 I’m excited for The Love That Split the World and The Distance from A to Z, too, both sounds really great!! 😀 and hm, all of those book covers. They are gorgeous!

I originally dismissed The Girl From Everywhere as well but the more I hear about it, the better it sounds! I’m interested to see how it compares with Passenger since both are about pirates and time-travel. I THINK. And omg ALL of the 2016 covers are amazing!! Props to the cover designers. I need to buy all of them and display them on my shelves!!!

Passenger is really a popular choice, too, I need to read once again the synopsis, and see if it’s a book that seems interesting for me 🙂 I’m intrigued though, since I’ve been hearing about it for so long! 🙂
Haha I feel so guilty when I see beautiful covers and just want them for that, sometimes. But they’re sooo pretty!

Haha I’m highly anticipating Passenger but that’s probably also mainly because I’ve been hearing about it for so long. The hype for that book is MASSIVE. I like the sound of the synopsis though so hopefully I won’t be let down.

JENNA! ^.^ You make me so happy! Thank you. I really appreciate all your support. It honestly means so much and when I’m going through a slump I think of you, CW and a few others who are just so amazing about encouraging to me that I know that I can’t give up, no matter how much I may want to kill my manuscript with fire sometimes.
I can’t wait to share something real with you one day. Soon. I’m thinking of sharing snippets when I’m done drafting the “final” version. Before it goes to Betas.

Great idea! I’d love to see some sneak peeks! Haha, please don’t go Aelin on your manuscript! It’s much too precious. But I guess it might help you burn the evil out of it? XD

Aelin?
I’ll definitely do that then, the sneak peaks post, when I’m all ready to go. CW and Jesse both said they’d Beta. I actually did feint when they offered (at separate times). I pretty sure I cried too. I’m not even joking. The support from all of you means so very much to me. It’s very dear to my hear. 😀

If you haven’t read Throne of Glass, just wipe Aelin from your mind because that’s a minor spoiler. I DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING.
I would totally Beta for you too! But I have zero experience in Beta reading and I’d probably suck at it.

OMG, but your opinion would be mind blowing. I have no idea how to beta either, I honestly need to “research” what to ask of betas so I know what I’m supposed to expect, lol. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be like a sort of review or more invasive. Like I said, I need to do my research too and see what is reasonable to ask/expect.
I am reading Assassin’s Blade right now, so I’ll get to ToG next. I’ll forget about Aelin..*forgetting*

Yeah I don’t think I’ve read enough fantasy to be able to be really critical about it. I’m more about breaking down the different elements and saying whether I liked it or not when it comes to fantasy 😀 But I know CW will be able to give you lots of great critiques. She does that really well!

I adore her! I just hope to meet her expectations. I really value her crits and I don’t want her to be like (ugh I hated it and then be afraid to tell me). I want the book to be good, so crit is good.

Which is great cos I’ve never heard of any of these and now I have 🙂 I want to read more contemporary books next year and I like the sound of The Distance from A-Z and The Year We Fell Apart. I also love the title The Smell of Other Peoples Houses, what a title! Will have to check that out.

I still have absolutely no idea what The Smell of Other People’s Houses is about but I haven’t read many books set in the 70s and none set in Alaska so I think I’ll enjoy it regardless. I think The Distance From A to Z will only be available as an ebook, which is devastating because I actually quite like the cover!

Dreamology sounds good. Although I seldom read YA contemporary, I love the idea of a dream guy showing up in real life.

Haha I would love that too. I think there are other things going on too. The synopsis mentions reality and dream blurring together and the protagonist needs to decide whether to give up her dreams. It sounds fascinating.

The Girl From Everywhere is definitely at the top of my most anticipated list and I have a strong feeling it might be the stand out of the many time travel books set to come out next year. The Way I Used to Be sounds like it might be very moving but it’s definitely a story that needs to be told. I’ll get the tissues ready for that one. As a title The Smell of Other People’s Houses is enough to get me interested and I have no idea what to expect from it haha. This is going to sound really random but the cover game for these new releases are on point!

Haha, not random at all! I’ve been thinking the same thing about the covers. They’re sooooo beautiful. And it’s not just these ones that I’ve featured. There are so many amazing covers on everybody’s lists! The cover designers need a pay rise! I definitely think The Girl From Everywhere will be a contender for best debut novel of 2016 (LOL already thinking about the Goodreads choice awards). I’ve seen many rave reviews for that book and I’m definitely intrigued!

So much agreement with these books! I didn’t know A Study in Charlotte was a trilogy, omg. Apparently the author put in a couple of hidden eggs in the story too, which is pretty awesome. The Crown’s Game is also super anticipated for me. (Too bad it comes out during exam week haha) The Smell of Other People’s Houses has such an intriguing title, I wonder how it will be? And finally, I’ll be looking out for your review of Symptoms of Being Human. 🙂 I have an eARC as well and can’t wait to dive in!

I had no idea A Study in Charlotte was a trilogy either until I saw the #1 on its Goodreads page! But I’m glad that there are more books because seriously… nothing beats Sherlock or Sherlock-inspired stories. I think I might read it this month! The Crown’s Game is TOO FAR AWAY. Ugh why is May so far away?!! Ugh ewww exams. But that reminds me, I’ll be in Florida during that time! Hopefully all of your exams will be out of the way and we can go HP world!

The only reason why my TBR is so long is because of these T10T posts. You listed so many interesting ones this week and that I’ve never heard of. As you know, I’m pretty excited for Dreamology too. When I was in middle school, me and my friends enjoyed writing (I can’t believe I thought about becoming an author on the side, haha). One of them actually started writing a story very similar to Dreamology’s premise. But it was set in Japan. XD
