One Lovely Blog Award + Some Special News

one-lovely-blog-award

I usually only do one tag/award post a week but I have some exciting news to share so I thought I’d share it through this bonus award post today. I was nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by a couple of lovely bloggers: Samantha @ Reed’s Reads & Reviews, Jesse @ Books at Dawn, and Calliope @ Calliope the Book Goddess.

There seems to be a couple of different sets of rules, but I’ll go with the rules from Samantha and Calliope’s posts.

one-lovely-blog-award-badgeRULES

1. You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.

2. List the rules and display the award.

3. Add seven facts about yourself.

4. Nominate seven other bloggers and let them know about their nomination!

7 FACTS ABOUT ME

1. I am actually a published author, except not in the way that you’re thinking ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a research article published in the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, where I am the second author. It was the biggest achievement of my academic career, but I now have two more manuscripts that have been submitted and are in review.

first-publication

2. The very first comment on this blog was from Summer @ Xingsings, who I am now good friends with โค

3. I used to be obsessed with reading Harry Potter fanfiction (still kind of am) and I was a huge Draco and Hermione shipper! Dramione forever!

4. I’ve had the same hairstyle since the end of 2009. You can see for yourself ๐Ÿ˜€ The first picture was taken in December 2009 and the other one was taken this month. Also, I must say, camera quality has improved quite a bit in 6 years.

5. I LOVE to watch figure skating, which is kind of weird since that’s pretty much not even a thing in Australia. I follow all the international competitions, and pay expensive subscription fees to watch them online T_T (Australia never broadcasts it because there are never any Australian competitors). I love all the Japanese skaters because I love all things Japanese, but my favourite figure skaters are Patrick Chan, and Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. GO CANADA! I’m super excited because the new season starts soon and I’m happy to hear that Patrick Chan is competing again this season ๐Ÿ™‚

6. Speaking of loving Japan, my favourite Japanese band is Arashi. I’ve been a fangirl since 2006 (before they became super popular because I’m totally hipster) and I haven’t stopped loving them since. Coincidentally, the variety TV shows they host are my favourite things to watch in my spare time. I love watching VS Arashi and Arashi ni Shiyagare.

They’re kind of middle-aged men now but I’ll always love them.

7. I’m super excited to share with you that I am now a co-blogger at Happy Indulgence, which is run by the fabulous Jeann! I was so honoured to be chosen, along with Aila @ One Way or An Author, to be a co-blogger of a blog that I’ve been reading for a while now. I can’t wait to bring you more YA reviews and other bookish goodness over at Happy Indulgence!

NOMINATIONS:

For this award, I’m going to nominate seven of my newest WordPress followers. Thanks for following me and for all of your support!

Figure Skating for the win!! But I normally cheers for France because I loved Brian Joubert, and Natalie Pechalat and Fabian Bouzart. But figure skating is also not a thing here in Portugal. It’s so cool that you have a research article published ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the French teams too! I really liked Pechalat and Bourzat and I’m sad that they’ve retired now. (I’m still hoping Tessa and Scott haven’t retired and will make a comeback for the next Olympics T_T). That new French ice dancing duo is really good though (can’t remember their names). I mean, they became world champions in their second year at the senior level!

Tessa and Scott were my 2nd favorite. I haven’t seen the new French team yet because I didn’t see last season competitions mainly because I was sad that all my favorites have retired. But I will start watching again the new season ๐Ÿ™‚

Me too but I know that Pechalat and Bourzat will not come back because their ยซoldยป and because she’s pregnant ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ! But I’ll try to watch and maybe I’ll get a new favorite pair

OMG!!! Journal of Experimental Psychology?! I was using their articles as reference on my theses before bc of their high citation rate and my professors recommend so (along with Clinical Nutrition, etc.). Wow. I’m completely amazed Jenna! Congratulations! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿ™Œ

I can’t figure skate, but I can roller skate! Figure skating is hard, though ice skates are sort of like in-line skates, right? Figure skating is hard, and ice is cold, may I say? ๐Ÿ˜€ Oh, wow, did you keep the same hair style since 2009 or did you never cut your hair since 2009? I grew my hair out to donate it and I am going to get it cut soon.

Thank you for the nomination, Jenna! You are an amazing woman and blogger and I love reading your blog! Thank you for having such a wonderful blog!!

    Love and books,

AHAHA I can’t skate AT ALL. I am so uncoordinated. I’m that pathetic person who has to hold on to the side boards tightly the whole way around the rink. I can’t let go at all. Like I said, PATHETIC. But I like to watch people do things that I can’t do – it makes me appreciate it even more (I also love to watch gymnastics and diving).

I’ve had the same hairstyle since 2009 but I get a trim about once every 3 months? And my fringe needs to be cut every 6 weeks.

Thank you! You’re too kind *blushes* โค I hope you continue reading my reviews here and on Happy Indulgence ๐Ÿ™‚

Arashi!! I have seen them around so much but still have no clues. Oh my gosh, my dreams is to be published in one of these science papers, unfortunately my university project never made it XD Congrats again on the Happy Indulgence success, you will have so much fun!

You’ll probably see Arashi all over Japan when you go. They’re super popular now!

And I’m still waiting to hear back about my manuscript for my honours project. I really hope it happens because it’ll be my first paper as the first author!

WOW, I loveeee VS Arashi! It’s so funny and they have the best chemistry I’ve ever seen in a pop group โค I've been listening to jpop and lots of JE groups too, and Arashi has a lot of songs that refuses to leave your head XD

and congratulations on your paper! That's quite an achievement ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay, so OMGOMGOMG, there’s is just so much I want to comment about on this post.

First, โค (actually endless heart emojis) to you! I remember stumbling upon Reading with Jenna early on but didn't really realize I was the first commenter. I just kind of feel special now. ๐Ÿ˜€ But it’s amazing to see how much it (your blog) has grown. And you, as a blogger! Which brings be to CONGRATULATIONS to becoming a co-blogger. I am so happy for you!! This is kind of embarrassing, but I’ve never been over to Happy Indulgence despite its popularity in the blogosphere. So I’ll be over there soon (when school lessens) to spam all your (and the other lovely girls’) posts!

Second, just whoa! Being a published author is pretty amazing. This isn’t really related but… I applied for a research assistant position for the next semester, which I talked about in my Blog Update from months ago (I think you already saw it), so I can’t wait!

Third, oh my freaking gosh. I LOVE ICE DANCING. LIKE WITH A PASSION. My favorite pair is Davis and White (of course!) but I also adore their rivals, Virtue/Moir, too. I also love watching the pairs ice skating as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ But I do watch some of the men’s and women’s singles. I think I saw Chan’s LP for the 2014 Olympics; so I’ll be on the lookout now that I know he’s one of your favorites!

Lastly, LOL about Arashi because… my blog name actually originated for my love for Exo, a Korean/Chinese boy band, so I was a huge tumblr user. I used to be so involved in the Exo tumblr community (but that stopped after beginning this blog, haha) and there were so many multifandom fans that loved Exo and Arashi. So I learned of Arashi through tumblr. XD But yeah.

Oh and my hairstyle has stayed the same growing up (when I was four though, I had the haircut every Asian baby has gotten: the nasty bowl cut shudders). I literally just cut it (a 180 degrees cut) once a year and let it grow. But it always looks different in every picture, which is kind of weird. But yours suits you! ๐Ÿ™‚

      YAY SUMMER BOMB!

Ngawww you were my very first commenter, and I think yours was the first blog I followed ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m so happy to be able to co-blog on Happy Indulgence. It’s been a lot of fun so far, working with Jeann and Aila. They’re amazing! (My first post goes up on Wednesday ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

I hope you get that RA position! My publication came from my work as an RA as well. It was a super valuable experience and it gave me a lot of great research skills that helped me to settle pretty quickly into my Honours research project and my PhD! Plus it looks really good on your CV ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes! Ice dancing! It’s the one that I understand the least, in terms of technical skills and rules and stuff, but it’s the one I like to watch the most because I don’t understand the rules. It’s so much more creative than just doing jumps all the time. I liked Davis and White too! But Virtue and Moir are my number one love ๐Ÿ˜€ Patrick Chan is amazing!! So glad he’s back for my viewing pleasure ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

I think my hair suits me too, so I’m too scared to change it haha. I’m the same as you, I just get a big cut before the beginning of summer and leave it to grow, trimming it maybe once every 3 months. I’m so low maintenance with it now.
