I’m knocking a few more tags/awards off my to-do list and The Creative Blogger Award seemed like a good one to do. It also lets you know more about me! I was tagged a long time ago by the one and only Miss CW @ Read Think Ponder and recently by Dimple @ Enthralling Dimple. (Let me know if you’ve tagged me and I’ve forgotten.) Go visit these lovely ladies!
RULES
- Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
- Share 5 facts about yourself.
- Nominate some bloggers in return and notify them about their nomination.
- Keep the rules in your post to make it easy for everyone to know what to do.
FACT 1:
I graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) degree and I’m now doing a PhD in psychology at the same university. My research looks at attentional biases (the bias towards paying attention to emotional information over non-emotional information) and how we might be able to help people overcome this bias. But I’m broadly interested in interactions between emotion, attention and visual perception.
FACT 2:
My PhD supervisor is American, as is one of the more senior PhD students in my lab who followed him all the way to Sydney. Because of this, I say some words with a bit of an American accent and I also do weird things like writing the date as mm-dd-yyyy instead of dd-mm-yyyy.
FACT 3:
I am currently obsessed with cronuts (the offspring of croissants and donuts). They are SOOOO good, but absolutely terrible for you! I usually get mine from the Adriano Zumbo stores in Sydney. They have one flavour every week (the one in the picture below was the Snickers flavour: peanut butter, caramel and chocolate). They had lemon meringue last week (lemon custard on the inside and Italian meringue on top), which was the best one yet. I love all lemon desserts!
FACT 4:
I haven’t borrowed a book from the library since about 2006. I’ve obviously borrowed reference books and textbooks from the university library, but I haven’t borrowed any fiction. I started earning money when I was 14 so I started buying all my books instead. Lately I’ve been thinking about borrowing eBooks or audiobooks from my local library, but I’m too lazy to renew my library card, which expired about 5 years ago.
FACT 5:
My favourite Disney movie is Mulan. I love the story and the soundtrack. And I love Mushu!
I NOMINATE:
A lot of people have done this Creative Blogger Award already, and I can’t keep track of who has or hasn’t, but I’m going to nominate some people anyway!
Ahh I loved reading this! I love this tag because I love learning about my fellow blogger friends. 😀
Oh my gosh though, attentional bias. I wrote this research paper on it, but it was really boring… it was on biased competition theory, but rather than emotional bias (WHICH WOULD’VE BEEN SO COOOL!!!), it was on how fMRI and ERP studies supported this theory. I wrote it when I was sick too and I think I started hallucinating about coloured dots LOL.
Cronuts, omg. I want one now. T_T I’m doing this eating regiment for a few weeks, and I’m not allowed sugary stuff. ;_; WAAAH.
Also. ME TOO. MULAN. MY FAVOURITE. I can’t wait for the Disney adaptation… but am really worried they might butcher it. 😦

OMG my honours thesis looked at biased competition as an underlying mechanism for emotion-induced blindness, which we study in our lab. Haha biased competition brings back the memories! My current research is looking at an earlier stage of processing (kind of an input stage), rather than biased competition which is more post-input.
I don’t have the self-control to not have sugar haha. Plus cronuts are too good! I swear I dream about them sometimes 😀
I don’t have high hopes for the live adaptation tbh… depends on the cast and everything I guess. The animated movie was SO GOOD! I don’t want the live movie to ruin it for me.

you PhD topic is so interesting! 😀
also, I never even seen a cronut in real life 😦 I need to change that…

Yes you need to change that! They’re a little bit hard to find unless you’re looking for them (or maybe it’s not a big thing in Europe?)

it’s not! LOL! At least I’ve never seen it, not even in London – true that I wasn’t really searching for it. But the next time I go abroad, I’ll look thoroughly

Maybe try France? 😀

Cronuts are deadly! They were really popular here a couple years back. My tummy is definitely ok if I never have one of those things again 😛

I’m still in the early stages of my obsession. Hopefully I’ll be able to kick this addiction soon, because it’s kind of expensive! Plus, that ‘one exclusive flavour a week’ thing just sucks me in. I need to let it know that it doesn’t own me HAHA.

HAHA! Well I think you can do it. Just persevere 😀

Okay, because I now sound like a massive glutton, I should make it clear that I don’t have them that often HAHAHA 😀

Oh my goodness your graduation looks like glorious fun if that mascot creature was around! Your PhD sounds fascinating, no wonder you don’t want to leave Uni. AND OMG MUST YOU TEASE ME with the cronuts? There’s an Adriano Zumbo here now but dare I say it’s not as good as the one in Sydney. I really need to revisit to i) see you and ii) eat my fill of dessert haha. MULAN IS MY FAVE AS WELL. The only choice for Asian kids tbh XD Buttt SHE SAVED A COUNTRY. Too awesome for words :’) We have good representation right there.

My graduation was actually horrible because it rained for most of the day. We had a 45 minute window to take photos. I’m glad I got a photo with the mascot though. The line for him was sooooo long!
OMG, we had an visiting academic last month who gave a talk on Superheroes and Princesses and their impact on young children. Apparently, out of hundreds of children they interviewed, only ONE girl said her favourite was Mulan! And her reason was the same as yours: “Mulan saved China”.
Write me a list of desserts I need to bring to Melbourne for you. So far, we have Black Star Pastry watermelon cake and Zumbo zonuts. I’ll be the dessert smuggler!

We had a downpour for my entire graduation haha so I understand how you feel. I barely got any photos but at least there will be memories XD WHATTT how can this be? Is it because Frozen and Tangled and the new gen of Disney has taken over the kids’ world? OMG YOU AMAZING DESSERT SMUGGLERS. I must repay you by taking you to all the fancy brunch spots (that I don’t bother visiting myself lmao)

Yeah, Frozen is taking over! Plus I think all the little girls like Prince Charming who comes and saves the princess. Which is why Mulan is so cool!! She saves the man AND the country!

Congratulations! Psychology is such a cool thing, my mind always drifted towards it when thinking of what course to study in university next year. However my pursuit towards writing slightly overrules it for me! Lovely post! 💕

I wish I had done some creative writing or English courses during undergrad! My PhD supervisor actually majored in psychology and minored in creative writing (a LONG time ago) so he’s always talking about writing! He’s now writing a textbook, which isn’t the same as creative writing, but still cool in my opinion!

I’m back! It should have dawned on me that you already did this! 😛
We had the whole Cronut debate! HAHA
